Grand Opening Celebration
If you joined us for our Grand Opening, you already know… it was something pretty special.
From the moment guests arrived, the space was buzzing – glasses of bubbles in hand, lush greenery overhead and live music setting the tone. Watching our flower market come to life, filled with people, laughter and connection, felt like one of those “pause and take it in” moments.
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate with us – and a special thank you to Lord Mayor Peter Styles for officially opening Beija Flor Flower Market. Having that moment shared with our community meant the world.
The night wouldn’t have been the same without our incredible local collaborators. Greenhouse kept everyone well fed, while Yoko Hype brought the vibe with their sax and guitar – the kind of music that makes you want to stay just a little longer.
A Space with a Story
One of the most talked-about parts of the night was our History Investigation Wall – a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at how Beija Flor came to be.
In Maria’s words, it all started back in 2010… arriving in Darwin on a small sailboat, fresh from six weeks at sea. That slightly chaotic first impression – no buses, no taxis, stinking hot weather – didn’t exactly scream “this is home”.
And yet… here we are.
Sixteen years later, Beija Flor has grown from those early days (from backyard wedding florist to shipping container pop-up at Casuarina!) into a space that truly reflects what we love - fresh flowers, thoughtful design and a strong connection to community.
The People Behind It All
The opening night was also about recognising the people who made this possible. From the early creative chats with Tina that led to the name Beija Flor, to the builders and tradies who transformed this ordinary shed.
A big thank you to Jeremy and the team at Asset Construction and Gary from Arctic Installations, for transforming this space into something pretty special.
And to our Beija Flor team – the energy and care you poured into the night didn’t go unnoticed. You’ve created something really special here.

So many of you in the room have been part of this journey from the very beginning.
You’ve ordered flowers for birthdays, babies, tough days and big celebrations. You supported us when we were just starting out, and you’ve continued to choose us and that’s something we don’t take lightly.
Beija Flor has always been about more than flowers. It’s about connection. It’s about showing up for people. It’s about those little moments that matter.
We’re Just Getting Started
Standing in that space on opening night, it felt like a full circle moment… but also like the beginning of something new.
A new home, a fresh chapter ...and plenty more flowers to come. Thanks again for celebrating with us, we’re so glad you’re part of it.
