Beija Flor's Festive Treat: Christmas Bush
Our pick of the week is the delightful Christmas bush. This pretty red flowering shrub holds Christmas memories for many Australians.
Growing up in Northern England my Christmas memories feature instead the scent of a real (and often misshapen) pine tree.
We also always had a potted poinsettia on kitchen table, which I remember always fared quite poorly. We did once take a New Years trip to the Canary Islands and were met with masses of red poinsettias throughout the city, so I think this temperamental Christmas plant really does prefer a more balmy winter.
At its best Christmas bush is a vibrant festive red and it’s a popular choice, we can never seem to get our hands on enough of it at this time of year.
Christmas bush looks great en masse in a vase and also combines well with other floral or native varieties. We’re included it in this vase, for Paspaleys Darwin showroom alongside, maple branches and the sweetest Jana roses. Alternatively, stick with other native Australian varieties such as these kangaroo paws and king proteas.
We’ll be stocking flowering Christmas bush at our Coconut Grove studio and also at Parap Fine Foods in the lead up to Christmas.
Happy Holidays!
