Beija Flor Darwin - How Soon Should I Book My Wedding Florist?

FAQ: How Soon Should I Book My Wedding Florist?

On occasion, we have catered to last-minute brides who have booked a small wedding just a couple of weeks out, which is fine on a quiet weekend as most of our particular flower varieties can be ordered in with a couple of week notice. But with almost all of our Darwin weddings happening within the dry season months of June, July and August, you’ll want to be a bit more organised to get the most from your wedding flowers.

Before sitting down with your florist, it’s a good idea to know what direction your wedding style is going and, of course, to have your venue and other essential details booked. It’s also good to have a rough plan of your reception layout. Whether your tables will be round or rectangles will have an impact on what designs we might suggest.

Suppose you are looking at hiring items from the Beija Flor rental collection, like our custom arbours or collections like the brass or vintage tins. In that case, I would recommend booking early because we only have a limited number of these items.

We usually open our bookings for the following year in October, so for a dry season 2021 wedding, our bookings will open in October 2020. This is because Darwin weddings are such a seasonal business. It allows us to focus entirely on designing and creating beautiful weddings during the busy dry season of May to September.

Unlike booking your photographer or celebrant, who you will spend much time with on the day, creating beautiful wedding flowers is very much a team effort. As such, we don’t have a fixed number of weddings we can make per weekend. Some of the weddings we do are huge, with many tables to dress with elaborate centrepieces, while other couples opt for bridal flowers and very simple centrepieces only.

Many of our couples have already booked for this dry season and we know that booking this far in advance,  change and this is ok. We always recommend a catch-up from six to eight to confirm all those details.

In conclusion, six to nine months ahead is an ideal time to start thinking about your wedding flowers. If your flowers are one of the most essential elements of your wedding (we really hope you feel this way too), do get in touch with us as soon as you’re ready. That way, you’ll be the first to know once our bookings for your wedding date are open. Here at Beija Flor, we are taking wedding bookings this year.
