Judging at Darwin Show
Maria’s Picks at the Darwin Show
This weekend, Darwin buzzes with excitement for the annual Royal Darwin Show Weekend! While the fun fair rides, show bags and tasty treats are a highlight for the kids, the agriculture and horticulture displays are also not to be missed. We’re thrilled to share the inside scoop on the fabulous floral category judged by our very own Maria Okwa. Maria has been judging the floral category for several years. So what caught her eye this year?
The Star of the Show Rich Magenta Celosia
Maria, our expert floral judge, has a keen eye for beauty and detail. This year she was particularly taken by a stunning rich magenta celosia, which was awarded in the cut flower category. Its vibrant colour and lush texture were hard to beat! Of course, there were also some enormous, beautifully fragrant roses that deserved a mention.
Fun and Creative Categories
One of the most fun parts of the judging process is the kids’ vegetable creatures and novelty floral displays. This year, we were blown away by the creativity and imagination. There was even an AI-powered flower delivery robot, which stole the show! It’s exactly what we need at Beija Flor - a futuristic helper to make our flower deliveries even more efficient.
Show Weekend Logistics
Remember, Friday 26th July is a public holiday for Darwin Show Day. While we won’t be delivering, our shop will be open from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for walk-ins. Pop in and pick up some beautiful Darwin-grown sunflowers or a fresh market bunch to enjoy over the long weekend.
Whether you’re a regular at the Royal Darwin Show or first time visitor, there’s always something nex and exciting to discover. This year there’s Chain Saw Sculpting and Sand Sculpting as well as the fun fair and agriculture displays. Enjoy the festivities, soak in the vibrant atmosphere, and have a fabulous Show Weekend!
