One Year in Our Coconut Grove Studio

Tuesday 26th March 2019

Today marks one year full since we opened our florist shop and floral studio in Coconut Grove. It’s not your typical Darwin flower shop and we think that’s what makes us stand out from the crowd. We’ve made flower buying simpler with lots of fresh and seasonal flower varieties by the bunch. Our flowers are also available from Parap Fine Foods, so you can still pick up a bunch of beautiful flowers outside our studio hours.

Space for Weddings and Retail Flowers

Our brief was to create a space where we could better serve our increasing customer base of wedding and corporate clients but also where customers can call in and pick up a bunch of flowers. Our studio serves both with a great location on the corner of Dick Ward Drive, making it easy to call in for a bunch of flowers on your way home and also plenty of space for all the flowers when we do really big wedding set ups like we did for The Bachelorette in August.

We’ve a huge warehouse out back, to grow our collection of props and vases, which are integral to our floral designs. We’ve been working hard the last few weeks photographing and uploading these to the rental collection here on the website. We’re looking forward to this weeks An Outback Affair where we’ll be showing off the latest additions to our rental collection.

It was a slow start when we first moved in on the back of Cyclone Marcus, but we had a great last dry season and we’ve been overwhelmed by how many new customers and friends we’ve made in our first year.

Growing up Our Home Business

Although it’s just one year at Coconut Grove our floral business actually started in Darwin in 2014. We prepared our first floral event centrepieces out of the kitchen sink in my apartment in Nightcliff. Our unit didn’t even have a spare room for the flowers and I was permanently nervous my curious toddler would pull all the heads of the flowers! We now have a great location, off the main road on Dick Ward Drive, a large cool room and we recently upgraded our refrigerated van which makes working with flowers in Darwin so much easier.

….and if you need another reason to stop by the Beija Flor studio, there’s great coffee just next door at Ruby Gs.
